Please reference some case summaries and outcomes from the South Euclid Detective Bureau in 2022.

In March of 2022, a female shoplifter was arrested at Walmart. Upon her arrest, she was found to have controlled substances and over $5,400 on her person. Investigation revealed that she had stolen the cash from a friend of hers during a burglary. The female was charged and later found guilty.

In March of 2022, juvenile females were having an argument over social media. The argument escalated to the point where one of the juveniles told the other to come to her home after her dad got home. The female went to the other female’s house with some friends. When the female and her friends arrived on the other female’s street, the father came out of the house with a gun and started shooting at the female and her friends in their car. The father was arrested and later found guilty.

In the spring of 2022, SEPD began investigating three overdoses, two of which resulting in death. All three overdoses were linked to same drug dealer. The drug dealer was identified and charged. These cases are pending.

In May of 2022, SEPD received a 911 call during which a woman said, “he shot my husband.” Officers arrived and found a 67-year-old resident of home deceased with multiple gunshot wounds. Investigation revealed that the 67-year-old was shot by another resident of the home, a 26-year-old male. The 26-year-old was arrested, and this case is pending in common pleas court.

In July of 2022, employee of a gas station reported that she was just robbed at gunpoint. Investigation revealed that during the robbery, the suspect wore a distinctive hoodie. This same suspect had robbed several other businesses in Cuyahoga County recently while wearing the same hoodie. This suspect was identified, charged and his case is pending.

In July of 2022 the South Euclid Police received an alarm notification at the Greenview School building. Officer responded and located a 26-year-old male exiting the building. He claimed to have been chased by unknown suspects and hid in the building for safety. Video footage showed this to be untrue. The male entered the building with no provocation and was seen inside ‘browsing’ for electronics. He attempted to flee when he saw police cruisers arriving. He was charged with felony Breaking and Entering.

In July of 2022, a shoplifter at Walmart threatened the store loss prevention team with a knife. The shoplifter fled the store and barricaded himself inside a Shaker Hts. Fire department vehicle that was parked outside of the store. Negotiation and SWAT teams were later able to get the shoplifter out of the vehicle and into custody. The shoplifter was charged and was later found guilty.

In July of 2022, a resident noticed several jewelry items and his surveillance camera missing from his house. Investigation revealed that the surveillance camera was web based and captured his neighbor entering his home through a window and taking the items. The neighbor was found to have sold the jewelry to a local jeweler. The neighbor was arrested and later found guilty.

In November of 2022, a South Euclid Resident reported that her car was stolen by an acquaintance. That person was given several opportunities to return the auto and chose not to. In addition, the suspect obtained an illegal title for the car. The suspect was eventually arrested by Liberty Township Police Department on the warrant, and in the stolen car.

A 19-year-old, female, South Euclid resident reported that she was being threatened by a male she had recently started chatting with on a dating app. The male had looked up her personal Snapchat account. He messaged her on both Snapchat and the dating app. He messaged that he would ‘take your worthless life’, among other disturbing statements. After she blocked him, he also messaged her contacts, in an attempt to reach her. The suspect was identified, arrested and charged with Menacing by Stalking.

The South Euclid Police Department responded to a report of a burglary and sexual assault of an elderly resident on Laclede Road. The elderly resident reported that a male knocked on her front door offering to rake her leaves and forced his way into her home when she answered the door. The suspect knocked the victim to the ground where he sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene. Evidence was collected from the scene, that was later examined by the laboratory and found to contain a DNA profile from an unknown male. The Detective worked diligently developing a suspect after thorough investigation. A search was conducted of the suspect’s residence and located evidence that later linked him by DNA to evidence collected at the crime scene. The suspect was arrested and indicted by a grand jury on charges of Rape, Attempted Rape, Aggravated Burglary & Tampering with Evidence.

South Euclid Police Department
