The City of South Euclid Police Department is currently hiring Police Officers. Candidates are required to complete the following to be considered for the position:
- National Testing Network’s Frontline National Exam
- Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA)
- Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ)
Salary Information: Starting at $71,832 after 3 years $89,790
Specialty Assignment Compensation. Any member assigned by the Chief of Police to one of the following specialty units, and who remains an active member of that unit, shall receive a one percent (1%) specialty pay. The one percent premium shall be based off the applicable rate of pay for a Class A Patrol Officer, not the rank of the individual officer. This specialty pay shall be prorated during each member’s tenure in a qualifying unit.

City Information: The City of South Euclid is an inner-ring suburb located on the east side of Cleveland. The city consists of a full-time police department, fire department and service department, proudly serving a population of 21,608. The city has a total land mass area of 4.65 miles. South Euclid has three elementary schools, one junior high school and four city owned parks. The South Euclid Police Department currently has 35 full-time sworn officers, two part-time officers, Auxiliary Unit, and three civilian support staff. We are currently seeking to hire an additional five to seven full time officers.

Necessary Certifications: If appointed, must be able to obtain the following:

Additional Requirements:
Passing Physical Agility Test (PAT) consisting of the following activities:
1.5-mile run
Sit-ups (timed one minute)
Push-ups (timed one minute)
Each event is scored separately, and the participant must meet the COOPER INSTITUTE OF AEROBIC RESEARCH STANDARDS on each event to obtain a passing certificate.
Hiring Process: Successful candidates must pass a competitive exam (administered by the National Testing Network), physical agility test (administered by an approved testing site), background investigation, voice stress analysis (polygraph), personality test, and at least one in-person interview.
If a conditional offer of employment is made, the candidate will be required to submit to a psychological exam, physical exam, and drug screen.
Criminal Activity: Applicant will be disqualified if:
- Convicted of a felony
- Convicted of any offense which can be considered domestic violence.
- Convicted of certain misdemeanor offenses, within five years of the date of application
- Convicted of any crime involving moral turpitude
- Other criminal convictions or arrests will be considered on a case-by-case basis
Driving Activity: Applicant will be disqualified if:
- Convicted of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs within three years from the date of application
- Convicted of fleeing & eluding police within three years from the date of application
- Convicted of driving on a suspended license within three years from the date of application
- Other traffic offenses will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
